30 Second smile – The number 1 pick for the best electric toothbrush

With each new product on the market claiming to be the best electric toothbrush it can take some serious time and effort to sort through the claims each one makes. In this article we’ll see what 30 second smile is, take a look at its features to see what exactly it does, have a look at what all is included with the purchase  and show you why it’s earned our pick as the product of choice for anyone looking for an electric toothbrush.

What is 30 second smile and why is it the best electric toothbrush?

There are several factors to look at when reviewing any products but with dental hygiene we really felt that listening to the dentists themselves should be our number one guiding principle when trying to determine the best electric toothbrush. What makes 30 second smile so effective is that it literally combines three of the most important features into one toothbrush, dentists typically recommend three main things in a toothbrush, it should have soft brush bristles, a small brush head and that you can brush your teeth at a 45° angle. This is where the 30 second smile really amazed us as it met all the requirements, of note here is that the head of the toothbrush is not your typical one and may not be considered by some to be small however using it  gives you the same result of a small headed toothbrush which is your entire tooth is perfectly cleaned so we had to give it a checkmark on this.

Having all three dentist recommended features was for us very important when rating products for the best electric toothbrush but it’s also how 30 second smile works that caught our attention. This toothbrush doesn’t have the phrase 30 seconds in its name for no reason, there are two sides to the toothbrush head that you place between your teeth and it scrubs back and forth for you and because of the 45° angle you don’t have to waste time trying to clean your teeth at different angles as the 30 second smile does it all at once saving you time and cleaning your teeth better in 30 seconds then most people do in  2 minutes.

Does the ‘best electric toothbrush’ give you value for your money?

You now know why 30 second smile has taken top spot, but you cannot give a product the label of the best electric toothbrush without looking at the value of the purchase itself. Value often is the most important factor for many people when making the final decision to purchase and is one we consider an extremely important part of any review. Below is a list of what’s included with your purchase and really convinced us that of all the products we’ve looked at 30 second smile is the best electric toothbrush to date.

Basic package:

• The 30 second smile toothbrush (including batteries)
• Designer stand
• Two sets of brushes
• Travel container
• Professional tongue cleaner
• 60 day trial
• 3 year warranty

PLUS for only the cost of the additional shipping and handling you also receive:

• Free replacement brushes for life
• The 30 second smile whitening system

But how much does 30 second smile cost?

When we first started out looking for the best electric toothbrush we expected to see prices of $200 or even $300 but were very impressed when we discovered that the basic 30 second smile package listed above is only $59.90 + shipping and handling and you can receive the free whiting system and replacement brushes by only paying the additional shipping and handling.

For the downside we can say that even the best electric toothbrush does has a fault, we thought rather than using regular batteries this could have been designed with a built in recharging unit. However as you only actually use it for 30 seconds at a time the battery use is quite minimal.

Overall, when taking into account the how effective this 30 second smile is at keeping your teeth and gums healthy, the value you get for your money for the purchase itself, the time saved daily using it and the consumer protection of a 60 day trial and a 3 year warranty, the 30 second smile really is in our estimation the best electric toothbrush available on the market today.

Phillips DiamondClean HX9332/05 – Runnerup for the best electric toothbrush

The Diamondclean Rechargeable sonic electric toothbrush is currently Phillips’ best electric toothbrush, while they do have several others we could review since this one is their top model we decided we would have a good look at it first as Phillips does have a great name and has at times definitely had the best electric toothbrush in the marketplace.

Why the DiamondClean made the best electric toothbrush list

There are several aspects of this brush that are interesting and make it worth a look, one of the big selling features that is being pushed for this toothbrush is the speed at which the it vibrates with claims of up to 31,000 brush strokes per minute. If the title of best electric toothbrush was based on brush strokes alone the DiamondClean would have to be the winner, unfortunately for the Diamond it is not and the importance of such a feature is very debatable.

More importantly, and one of the features that helped this brush made our best electric toothbrush list is that it has five operational modes, Clean, White, Polish, Gum Care and Sensitive. As the names of the modes suggest, each mode is designed to alter the way in which the DiamondClean brush strokes clean your teeth, and while fun to play around with. There does not appear to be a whole lot of difference between the modes and more than likely you will find one you prefer and stick to it, while it’s not a feature that will help the DiamondClean make or break it as the best electric toothbrush it is an added value worth a mention.

For our reviews of the best electric toothbrush we had to look at all the features and another one of the DiamondClean is that it has two timers. The ‘smarttimer’ is a two minute timer to notify you that you’ve completed brushing your teeth and it also has what is called a ‘quadpacer’ timer which is a 30 second timer to tell you when to move on to another section of your teeth. While having additional features is nice we’re not really convinced that either of these are really needed or are even helpful and certainly isn’t really a feature that bumps it up our best electric toothbrush list. After all, who is really to say when your teeth are clean other then you?

Can the DiamondCleans’ accessories make it the best electric toothbrush?

Now the DiamondClean does come with some extras that are worth mentioning and do help it on the best electric toothbrush list. First is the travel case, this is a well thought out add on as it’s more than just a way to bring your toothbrush with you, it is actually a recharger that has a USB port integrated into it which you can use recharge your toothbrush. Another interesting concept is the glass tumbler that it comes with, the glass can be used for rinsing but all the while the silver base that the glass sits on will wirelessly recharge your toothbrush. On these two features we had to give thumbs up and are added value which is always important when looking for the best electric toothbrush.

The DiamondClean also comes with two toothbrush heads which may actually be the best part of the entire brush. The brush heads themselves are small and designed to allow you to be able to reach the hard to get to areas of your teeth. One of the top recommendations of dentists for people looking for a toothbrush is a small toothbrush head, this was definitely one feature that bumped the DiamondClean up on our best electric toothbrush list.
The bad news about this toothbrush and one of the reasons it didn’t make the top spot on our best electric toothbrush list is the price, currently the asking price for this toothbrush is a lofty $220.00. Although we did find them cheaper here at amazon for approximately $170 dollars or so.

Phillips DiamondClean – Overall review for the best electric toothbrush list

While the DiamondClean is a good quality electric toothbrush, in the end there really isn’t anything about it that stands out enough to support giving this the title of best electric toothbrush. Other then the brush head size it would seem the features such as the multiple operational modes have been added simply to justify the  pricing rather then adding a feature that is beneficial  to cleaning your teeth.

As mentioned before the accessories are well thought out the travel case in particular moved the DiamondClean up our best electric toothbrush list but in the end it’s about how effectively your teeth are getting brushed for the amount of time you’re putting in and while a good electric toothbrush its traditional design and high price kept this one ranked at number 2 on our list of the best electric toothbrush.

Philips Sonicare Healthywhite HX6732/02

When it comes to trying to find the best electric toothbrush it is certainly no surprise to have Philips Sonicare present with one or more products represented. Philips is well known in the electric toothbrush market and is generally considered to make a quality toothbrush, this known quality however does often seem to come at a price. In this installment of the best electric toothbrush we’ll take a look to see if the Philips Sonicare Healthywhite is worth the price.

As the name would suggest the main focus of the HealthyWhite toothbrush is its teeth whitening ability which is one important aspect to consider when looking for the best electric toothbrush. On top of its teeth whitening capabilities it also uses the Philips Sonicare technology which works by creating an extremely high number of brushstrokes per minute, up to 31,000. Whether such a rate is really necessary can be debated however there are clinical studies to support Philips’ claims that Sonicare helps to better clean your teeth. Now how much better 31,000 is then say 1000 is hard to know and for that reason this feature doesn’t really do much on our best electric toothbrush list.

On top of the actual way a brush cleans your teeth the additional features one has always factors when rating for the best electric toothbrush and like other Philips toothbrushes an additional feature the HealthyWhite has is its use of two separate timers. There is the ‘Smarttimer’ which is a two minute timer to notify you when you’ve reached the recommended brushing time and also the ‘Quadpacer’ timer. The Quadpacer is to remind you to switch cleaning to a different area of your teeth every 30 seconds. Unfortunately these timers are really just a novelty and just don’t carry any weight on our best electric toothbrush list.

The version of the Healthywhite we’re reviewing for our best electric toothbrush list, the HX6732/02, has 3 operational modes:

Clean – The standard 2 minute brushing mode
Sensitive – for people with sensitive gums or suffering from gum disease
Clean and White – this is the Clean mode with an extra 30 seconds of brushing time for you to focus on brushing your more visible front teeth to help remove stains.

Once again these features fail to impress when comparing for the best electric toothbrush, if you want to focus on cleaning your front teeth do you really need a timer to help you with this?

One aspect of the HealthyWhite electric toothbrush we did like was the ‘ProResults’ brushhead. When you’re rating products for the best electric toothbrush you have to follow certain criteria like what dentists recommend and most dentists recommend using a small brushhead to make cleaning the hard to reach areas of your teeth easier. The ProResults brushhead fits that description to a tee, and helps to solidify the HealthyWhites 3rd place spot on our best electric toothbrush list.

Now that we know what it does we have to look at what the HealthyWhite comes with, which unfortunately is limited for the price. First you have the rechargeable travel case, this is a pretty handy thing as the travel case uses a USB port which you can plug in to charge your toothbrush. You of course also get the regular charging base, and two brushheads to start yourself off, one regular and one compact.

All in all for a suggested retail price of $129.00 compared to other brushes we’ve reviewed on our best electric toothbrush list we would say there is better value to be had. There really isn’t anything new here; it’s the same old sonicare technology with a different model name on the brush. Philips has a good name, they do tend to make quality products but to us it seems they add on token features to justify a higher price. So the Philips Sonicare HealthyWhite comes in at a comfortable 3rd place on our best electric toothbrush list.
